Impact Subsea has released the first open sourced version of the Software Development Kit (SDK).

The SDK is provided to allow users to develop their own application to communicate with and operate any Impact Subsea sensor.

The open source version of the SDK is available on GitHub and is a single project written in C++17. This release includes:

• The SDK no longer runs in its own thread simplifying interfacing.
• Linux and cross platform usage is better supported through cmake and C++17.
• Each serial port runs in its own thread so the SDK does not lock up if there is a serial port issue.
• Logging sensor data to file is much simpler, as is the playback, as the log file data is basically the comms data. This allows log data to virtually simulate a sensor.

“The release of the open source SDK will provide users of Impact Subsea sensors with an exceptionally powerful kit to develop applications. The cross platform capability will simplify development considerably and we have added many improvements over the previous SDK.”

Rental Technology & Services (RTS) have made a significant investment in Impact Subsea ISA500 Altimeters and ISD4000 Depth Sensors. 

The investment is to compliment RTS’s rental portfolio with high performance sensor solutions and provide rental stock for the newly opened Aberdeen base.  The ISA500 provides long range, high accuracy, underwater distance measurements while the ISD4000 provides survey grade depth and temperature readings.

Impact Subsea has hosted a visit from Scottish Enterprise’s Managing Director for Business Growth, Rhona Allison.

Accompanied by her colleagues Matthew Lockley and Scott Graham, Rhona visited Impact Subsea at its headquarters in Ellon, Aberdeenshire on Friday.

The evolution of Impact Subsea’s business was discussed with company director Ben Grant who led a tour of the company’s head office and manufacturing facility.

Impact Subsea have made a Software Development Kit (SDK) available for their complete range of sensors.

The SDK is a software library that simplifies the development of an application intended to communicate with and operate any Impact Subsea sensor.

The SDK is intended for use by developers of Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) and other bespoke developments where a custom interface is required. The SKD has been created to simplify integration into such applications.

As standard the library file is compiled and provided for X86 and X64 architectures but can be compiled for ARM and other architectures upon request.

“The SDK has been written with embedded credit card computers in mind, such as the Raspberry Pi and Beagle Bone type systems and is fully operating system independent” commented Alastair Mclennan-Murray, Technical Director, Impact Subsea.

The SKD is available free of charge to all Impact Subsea sensor users. For using sensors in ROV and other applications the seaView software is provided to enable image viewing, data logging and configuration of Impact Subsea sensors.

After months of focused development the new website has been officially launched on the 5^th of May 2021.  The site has been redesigned to be faster, easier to navigate and more user friendly.

As a leader in sensor solutions for underwater vehicles, it was critical to Impact Subsea that all technical information and knowledge relating to our solutions be easily accessible by users.

Impact Subsea are delighted to receive a Queen’s Award for Enterprise for Innovation.

The ground-breaking ISA500 Altimeter has been recognised by the UK’s most prestigious business awards, personally approved by Her Majesty, The Queen. One of only 205 organisations recognised with the prestigious award this year, Impact Subsea join 48 recipients in the Innovation Category. 

The award acknowledges the ISA500’s step-changing impact within the field of underwater Altimeters; in terms of distance measurement range, accuracy and new functionality previously unseen in the market. 

Launched in 2015, the ISA500 Altimeter provides an in-built heading, pitch and roll system allowing automatic stabilisation of the distance measurement by correcting for pitch and roll of the vehicle. 

Since its launch the ISA500 has gone from a single sensor solution to a range of underwater Altimeters available in different housing materials and configurations.  It is also one of only two underwater Altimeters in the world to be available for use down to 11,000 meters depth.
